This is a layer comprised of fat and connective tissue and is the home of large blood vessels and nerves.
Defence against cold (fat structure).
Regulates the temperature of the body and skin.
Defence against mechanical damage (fat structure).
Energy supply to the cells (fat structure & proteins & Triglycerides).
